July 11, 2007 Rest Easy, You Can Keep Your Boys

AP news and Rueters are both reporting that Levine pulled AB1634 (the so called healthy pet bill) fearing it would fail in the Senate Local Government Committee.  During a hearing yesterday, most lawmakers said that they were unhappy with the proposal. Depending on which news story you read, Levine may have said that he plans to reintroduce the bill next year!

When Levine realized that there weren’t enough votes in the five-member committee to pass his measure, he suggested weakening it so that spaying and neutering would not be mandatory. Instead, he proposed that spaying and neutering would only be required if a dog or cat was running free or a complaint was lodged against an animal owner.

“If in violation of other animal laws, you have to spay and neuter,” Levine said in describing his proposed change.

But both GOP lawmakers on the committee appeared unwilling to vote for the bill even with the amendment. The committee chair—Sen. Gloria Negrete-McLeod, D-Chino (Riverside County)—also appeared to be opposed to the measure. Levine then said he would leave the bill in committee until next year.

From the San Francisco Chronicle

As the Vindu Goel from the Mercury News so cleverly stated, I hope Levine lets sleeping dogs lie.

June 25, 2007 No on AB 1634 State Capitol Rally

The rights of pet owners across California will face a crucial test in just two weeks.

On Monday, July 9th, California State Senators will vote on AB 1634 in the Business, Professions and Economic Development Committee hearing which starts at 1:30 pm. The measure will make it illegal for most Californians to own a dog or cat over 4 months old that has not been spayed or neutered.

At 10:00 am, PetPAC will hold a “No on AB 1634” Rally to demonstrate that our opposition to AB 1634 is widespread, strong and united.

We need your help! We encourage you, your family, friends and pets to attend.

imageMaMa got a bug package from the man in brown yesterday. I like him. but mama made me come inside and watch her put this transformer together and then she put me in it. She pushed me around the living room and i pretended to like it. Then she went outside, but i wasn’t having it. I want to run free so i busted out. Then she put a big ol screen on the transformer so i couldn’t get out. We pushed down to to michael bay’s office and I yelled fer help. “Michael Bay come save me from this transformer” but i think he was gone fer da day. Although the horse car was still there. Mama sez this is fer high-king on our roadtrip. that sounds like fun. ME as king n all! *snort*
