A: If heis paper trained, start moving the papers outside *snort* Keep an important idea in mind: don't focus your effort on teaching your dog not to go potty in the house... teach your dog to go potty outside. Do you see the difference between those two strategies? One is trying to convince the dog to NOT do something, the other is training a dog to want to do something. There's a big difference. YOu want to encourage him to go outside, not punish him for going inside. Make him WANT to go outside.

Q: i have a 6 week old pug puppie and he wont drink water. i mix water with his food but he wont drink plain water. how do i get him to drink water? -
A: Your puppy was just weaned and is used to having its mother's milk instead of water......it may have been weaned to early and should still be with its mother. You can use whole milk or ask your vet for a suitable milk substitute. Here are several suggestions: 1) Try changing the bowl. The bowl you have may not be comfortable for your pug or your pug may just be scared of it right now! 2) Put your fingers in the water and have your pug lick your fingers, then lead the pug to the water. 3) Some people try putting a small amount of cicken broth in the water to make it more enticing. 5) Try milk. Then slowly add water. Replace the amount of milk with water until it is all water. Your puppy should "learn" by then. 4) Keep doing the food mixed with water until your pupy realized it can and should drink water on its own. Keep the water fresh and in a clean bowl. Most puppies will like the softened food more, especially for the first couple of weeks.

Q: My dog keeps attacking our cats. Can you help me, he is half newfoundland and half french bird dog. Ususally he is very sweet but when he sees a cat or another small animal he doesn't listen to me he seems to be in a trance, he completely ignores my yelling and spanking and he attacks. A: As a bird dog, he needs to have his natural instinct satisfied. Right now, those instincts kick in around the cat. First you need to take possesion of the cat and small animals and let him know they are yours and he cannot hunt them. Then you need to replace that behavior with a positive behavior, a game of sorts that uses his natural abilities. Yelling and spanking is not a positive reinforcement and does not rain a dog. Trainers use swats occassionally, but usually use more an annoying noise that means NO. the dog will learnthis noise and react to it.

A: sounds like you had a cut or abrasion and it is healing...could even be an ingrown nose hair

A: Probably allergies, or she is just in need of a bth--the dander and dirt is making her itchy!
